Sometimes we stop believing we can change. That our lives can change. That the world can change.

When I read this I can’t help but think of how Jesus, so many times, said to His disciples “You of little faith.” And often times when we read the Bible we can just read over the words and think “how can they do that?” But the truth is that Christians act much like the disciples of Jesus. We know of His great works and we see the miracles and believe in Him yet we still doubt at times. We let ourselves be blinded by the world and don’t see things the way God wants us to see them. We do just what the quote above says. But don’t let that discourage you, just read the quote below from Erwin McManus’s book Wide Awake: The Future Is Waiting Within You and take heart. Think about the words and let them encourage you.

A life of faith is a life of expectation. The book of Hebrews gives us snapshots of individuals who lived a life of expectation, internalized optimism, and refused to give up. We are called to emulate the lives of women and men who kept leaning into their future. Through their stories, we are given clues about how we can begin to expect more and live bigger than ourselves. We are given this backstory to their epic tales:
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.
